Restaurant Reading Practice | Korean Stories

안녕하세요 여러분! Today's reading practice is a dialogue about eating out at restaurants. I'll link to the original post here if you want to hear the audio. if you're having a hard time understanding this dialogue, scroll underneath it to see a breakdown of each sentence.

Full Dialogue:

1: 얼마나 자주 레스토랑에 가세요?

2: 저는 매우 자주 가는 편인데, 아마 한 주에 한번은 갈거에요.

1: 저도 마찬가지에요. 너무 돈을 많이 써서 큰일이에요.

2: 그러게요. 매번 하는 외식은 너무 비싼 것 같아요.

1: 그래서 저는 주로 집에서 요리를 해요.

2: 어떤 종류의 요리를 하세요?

1: 혼자 있을 땐 주로 수프와 샌드위치를 만들어요.

2: 그것 참 너무 간단하군요.

1: 그러게요, 근데 혼자서 먹는데 너무 많은 요리를 하고 싶진 않아요.

2: 그럼 친구들을 초대하는 건 어때요?

1: 만약 친구들을 초대할 경우에는 보통 특별한 음식을 만들어요.

얼마나 자주 레스토랑에 가세요?

How often do you go to a restaurant?

(으)세요 - poilte question

저는 매우 자주 가는 편인데, 아마 한 주에 한번은 갈거에요.

I tend to go very often, but I'll probably go once a week.

는 편이다 - tend to do

한번 - once

한 주 - a week, 1 week

저도 마찬가지에요. 너무 돈을 많이 써서 큰일이에요. 그러게요.

Same here. I'm in trouble because I spent too much money. Yeah.

마친가지 - the exact same

쓰다 - to use

큰일 - big trouble

그러게요 - yeah; right

매번 하는 외식은 너무 비싼 것 같아요.

I think eating out every time is too expensive.

매번 - everytime

외식 - eating out

비싸다 - to be expensive

ㄴ 것 같다 - I think

그래서 저는 주로 집에서 요리를 해요.

So I usually cook at home.

그래서 - so

주로 - usually

어떤 종류의 요리를 하세요?

What kind of food do you cook?

어떤 - which

종류 - kind, type

혼자 있을 땐 주로 수프와 샌드위치를 만들어요.

When I'm alone, I usually make soup and sandwiches.

혼자 - alone

있다 - to be

ㄹ 때 - when

그것 참 너무 간단하군요.

That's too simple.

참 - very

간단하다 - to be simple

군요 (구나) - surprise ending

그러게요, 근데 혼자서 먹는데 너무 많은 요리를 하고 싶진 않아요.

I know, but I don't want to cook too much when I eat alone.

아/어서 - because

요리 - food

고 싶지(는) 않다 - don't want to

그럼 친구들을 초대하는 건 어때요?

Why don't you invite your friends?

그럼 - then

초대하다 - to invite

는 거 - doing

어때요? - how about that?

만약 친구들을 초대할 경우에는 보통 특별한 음식을 만들어요.

If you invite friends, you usually make special food.

만약 - if

경우 - circumstance

친구들을 초대할 경우에 - In the case/circumstance that you invite friends..

보통 - usually

특별하다 - to be special
