Intermediate Korean Dialogue | Valentines Day Reading Practice

안녕하세요 리더님! I'm Koreanstudyjunkie. At the time of making this post, Valentines day is only a few days away. Therefore, I have decided to make a reading practice for Intermediate learners relating to Valentine's day.

등장인물 (Characters):

• 민준 (Minjun) – 2년째 연애 중인 남자, 여자친구와 발렌타인데이를 보낼 예정 / A guy who has a a girlfriend of 2 years discussing their Valentines day plans

• 유나 (Yuna) – 친구들과 파티에서 발렌타인데이를 보낼 예정 / Going to a party with friends

• 수진 (Sujin) – 발렌타인데이를 싫어하고 집에서 혼자 보낼 예정 / Hates valentines day and plans to spend it at home alone

Setting: 친구들이 카페에서 만나 발렌타인데이 계획을 이야기하는 중 / Friends meet at a café and are talking about their Valentines day plans

대화 (Conversation)

유나: 와, 벌써 2월이라니! 다들 발렌타인데이 계획 있어?

민준: 응, 나는 당연히 있지! 벌써 2년째 같이 보내는 거니까.

수진: 아... 발렌타인데이... (한숨 쉼) 그 끔찍한 날이 또 돌아왔네.

유나: 또 시작이야? 수진아, 발렌타인데이가 그렇게 싫어?

수진: 완전 싫어! 솔로인 사람들한테 너무 불공평한 날이잖아. 커플들은 막 달달한 분위기 내고, 초콜릿 사고, 데이트하고... 너무 오글거려! 나는 집에서 영화 보면서 맛있는 거 먹을 거야.

유나: 아, 그럴 거면 우리랑 같이 파티 가자! 남자 사람 친구들도 오고, 분위기도 좋을 거야. 어쩌면 좋은 인연을 만날 수도 있고!

수진: 흥, 됐어. 나 파티 같은 거 별로 안 좋아해. 모르는 사람들 많은 데서 어색하게 있는 거 싫어. 그냥 집에서 편하게 쉬는 게 더 좋아.

민준: 하긴, 수진이는 원래 조용한 거 좋아하니까.

유나: 그래도 한 번쯤은 색다른 경험 해보는 것도 좋을 텐데...

수진: 그 색다른 경험, 너나 해. 나는 조용한 하루를 보낼 거야!

민준: (웃음) 알겠어, 알겠어. 발렌타인데 다음 날은 그녀의 생일이잖아. 안타깝게도 그날에 2주 동안 가족을 보러 고향에 가려고 해. 발렌타인데이 이후에는 함께 시간을 보낼 수 없으니 특별한 날이 되었으면 좋겠어요. 나는 여자친구랑 데이트할 거야. 우리 문제는 뭘 해야 할지 고민 중이야.

유나: 응? 계획 없다며?

민준: 아니야, 있어. 한강 공원에서 피크닉 하려고 해. 분위기 좋은 곳에서 같이 맛있는 거 먹고, 사진도 찍고...

수진: 오, 괜찮네. 근데 그게 다야?

민준: 아니, 사실 선물도 준비했어. 여자친구가 가고 싶어 했던 콘서트 티켓을 구했어! 원래 매진됐었는데, 겨우 구했지.

유나: 우와! 대박이다! 진짜 감동할 것 같은데?

수진: 솔직히 그건 좀 부럽다. 나도 그런 이벤트 한 번쯤 받아보고 싶네.

민준: (웃음) 그러니까 발렌타인데이를 너무 미워하지 마. 근데 혹시 더 특별하게 만들 만한 아이디어 있어?

유나: 음... 편지를 써보는 건 어때? 직접 손으로 정성스럽게 써서 주면 더 감동받을 것 같아!

수진: 맞아. 요즘은 다 문자로만 하니까 손편지 받으면 감동할 거야.

민준: 오, 괜찮은데? 그럼 편지도 써야겠다.

유나: 완벽한 계획이네! 그럼 나는 수진이 설득해서 파티에 데려가야겠어.

수진: 포기해, 안 갈 거니까.

• 응 – Casual way of saying "yes" (spoken)

• 한숨 쉼 – Sighs, lets out a sigh
